The final number isnโ€™t confirmed yet, but Ford Performance is equipping the already-built Megazilla V8 with a massive Whipple supercharger

Hot-rodders love Fordโ€™s 7.3-liter pushrod V8. Despite its larger displacement, itโ€™s more compact than the 5.0-liter Coyote and has proven capable of handling massive power without failure. While the aftermarket first showcased its potential, Ford took it further with the Megazilla crate engineโ€”producing 615 horsepower naturally aspirated.

Engine builders have been experimenting with boost on the Godzilla platform for years, leading to this: a Whipple-supercharged 7.3-liter crate engine cranking out 1,000 horsepower.

Ford calls it the Megazilla 2.0, a fitting name given its mix of familiar and upgraded components. It retains forged pistons and connecting rods, ported and polished cylinder heads, upgraded valve springs, and a steel crankshaft.

The big game-changer is the Gen 6 3.0-liter Whipple supercharger, which pushes this engine into four-digit horsepower territoryโ€”strictly for off-road use. That means no street rods running this beast unless the owner doesnโ€™t mind breaking the law.

Because the stock Super Duty engine has a cast iron block, it can handle the extra boost. Upgraded internals and high-flow heads play a crucial role in making it work. Ford hasnโ€™t released torque figures yet, but considering the naturally aspirated Megazilla produces 638 lb-ft at 4,650 rpm, the blown Megazilla 2.0 will likely be well beyond that.

Ford is also rolling out another crate engineโ€”a 5.0-liter Coyote with the same Whipple supercharger. Borrowed from the Mustang Dark Horse, it features a reprogrammed powertrain control module and other enhancements, targeting 800+ horsepower and 615 lb-ft of torque. Unlike the Megazilla 2.0, this one is street-legal and comes with an optional two-year, 24,000-mile warranty.

Pricing for both engines hasnโ€™t been announced yet, but expect a hefty price tag. For reference, the current Megazilla is listed on Ford Performanceโ€™s site for $22,995. While tuners like Brian Wolfe at Willis Performance have squeezed even more power from similar setups with aggressive tuning, thereโ€™s something to be said for having your drag engine built straight from Ford.
