Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg replaces Günther Jauch

For 25 years, Günther Jauch has been running RTL’s annual review “People, Images, Emotions”. In 2022, however, he will hand over the hosting of the show. His successor is a duo: his old friend Thomas Gottschalk – and former defense minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg.
Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg was once the shooting star of German politics. In 2009, at the age of 37, he became the Federal Minister of the Economy and shortly afterwards moved to head the Ministry of Defence. But the plagiarism scandal surrounding his dissertation in 2011 ended all political ambitions of the CSU politician. He resigns and says goodbye to the political scene.
More than ten years later, zu Guttenberg is celebrating its comeback. But not in politics, but in television. RTL already announced in June that the television station is cooperating with the ex-minister on two 90-minute documentary programs for RTL+. But that is not the only task that the 50-year-old undertakes today as part of this collaboration.
Together with Thomas Gottschalk, zu Guttenberg will also form a “special duo for a special show”, RTL has now announced. So the two would co-lead this year through RTL’s annual overview “People, Pictures, Emotions”. The broadcast is scheduled for RTL on December 11 at 20:15 (also available on RTL +).
Documentary about Vladimir Putin
“Entertainment legend Gottschalk and former Federal Minister zu Guttenberg are behind the wide range of topics the show covers, from entertainment to society and world politics,” RTL explained its decision. “People, Pictures, Emotions” was first broadcast in 1996. Since then, the review has always been presented by Günther Jauch. However, he announced last year that he was giving up hosting after 25 years.
The first of two documentary productions that zu Guttenberg is working on for RTL+ also deals with the power politics of Russian President Vladimir Putin and its background and consequences. Zu Guttenberg is said to have held numerous talks with top partners in countries such as the US, Ukraine, England and Germany.
