Scented memories last longer than any other. Even if you are a woman today, you remember well the scents your mother used. The first own experiences with perfume are also encoded in the memory forever. After all, the smell of perfume is a dream, a fantasy, our little secret… Join us on a sentimental journey to the 1990s.

Fragrances have a great power of attraction. They affect our senses, affect the imagination, evoke memories.
Do you know that feeling when the smell of perfume brings to mind moments from the past? All you have to do is feel a delicate scent and you are already floating in the clouds and thinking of the carefree times of childhood or student youth.
Scents and perfumes are like an invisible thread that connects us to people or places that are important to us. It is this association of associations that connects us with a given scent note that determines which scents are close to us and which we try to avoid.
The first scents are usually stolen from mother or sister. Sometimes you also remember your grandmother’s perfume or the scent of lavender.

In the 1980s, deodorants imported from abroad or bought in Pewex stores were the height of dreams. Every day the ladies were left with “Basia” distinguished by its intense green color.
Gentlemen had at their disposal “Prastra” (in a distinctive basket), “Przemysławka” (which, due to its high alcohol content, was popular among those who abused spirits), “Wars Classic” cologne and “Brutala”, and those who had dollars, they could go crazy with “Old Spice” from Pewex.
Relatives and family knew that the best gift from the West for a young girl at that time was cosmetics that were not available in the People’s Republic of Poland. It often happens that for years we remember how our uncle brought us Bac deodorant from West Germany (West Germany). It was an exclusive gift that all my friends envied! The fascination with everything Western was widespread.
In the 90s, after the fall of communism, we were stunned by the colorful packaging of Western cosmetics and their abundance. At the time, there was a fashion for almost food-grade fragrances. Vanilla and musk ruled.

We remember these scents, but also the packaging;
- Maybe,
- Mrs. Walewska,
- Currara,
- wild musk,
- Masumi,
- flame,
- Le Jardin,
- Lou Lou Cacharel,
- Cafe Cafe,
- circumvention,
- Kobako,
- Limar…

What else needs to be added to this list?
All the girls in Poland in the 90s wanted to “smell the scream with an exclamation mark”. This advertising slogan with the floral perfume Exclamation in a distinctive black and white bottle is stuck in the memory of many (then) teenagers.
Our lives create memories, and smells are a very important part of them. Sensual notes of bergamot, cardamom and ambergris created a fragrance promoted by the slogan: “There are women who smell like wind, this wind is called Masumi…”
Branded perfumes were very strong back then; scents like Obsession (Calvin Klein), Poison (Dior), Opium (YSL) and Chanel Chanel No. 5 lasted a long time.
Dior’s “Fahrenheit” will certainly be remembered, a very distinctive, extreme masculine fragrance from the late 80s and early 90s.

Over the years, our perception of fragrance and our tastes change. Sometimes we don’t even notice it. It’s getting harder and harder to evoke a memory with your favorite scent. What must be done to make the memories stay with us for a long time?
And you, how do you remember the decade of the 1990s? Which fragrances from the 90s do you appreciate the most?
