KARACHI: After being twice attacked at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC), MNA Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM) Ali Wazir has asked authorities to either return him to prison or transfer him to Islamabad to attend a National Assembly session.

The incarcerated MP, who faces charges of rebellion and hate speech, said Parliament had issued him production orders to attend tomorrow’s budget session.

Wazir was taken to the hospital the day before for a routine checkup.

“First I spoke about the production orders issued to me by Parliament and second, I was attacked twice here. Therefore, have mercy on me and take me back to prison,” he said in front of the hospital late Wednesday night.

He added that if either of the two requests was “illegal or unconstitutional”, “then let me know”.

A case against a South Waziristan legislator and others – including Manzoor Pashteen and Mohsin Dawar – has been registered at the Sohrab Goth police station in Karachi on a government complaint. It was filed on December 7, 2020, after a day earlier Wazir and others addressed a public gathering in the same space.

According to the first information report (FIR), the organizers of the rally had not previously received permission to hold the event. “Speakers at the rally used hate speech against the Pakistani military, rangers and others,” it said.
