Streaming giant Netflix has been struggling for some time now. Of course, it is still the largest VOD platform, but the number of its users has decreased in recent months. The reasons for this are various, among them is one of the most important increasing competition from other services.
Some also point to disappointing content that has recently appeared on the platform and its poor qualityoften caused by too much political correctness. However, it must be admitted that thanks to such productions I have Wednesday and in part to services like Netflix Games, the service started to catch up again. now though Netflix has started to crack down on account sharingwhich many users do not like. What is it really about?
If Of course, sharing a Netflix account between household members is not prohibited, so often it turns out that users share their passwords with “third parties”. It’s about friends and family who, instead of buying their own service package, log in to the person who has it, using the benefits of the platform for free, which is unfortunately common practice. It is therefore Netflix is implementing a new system to combat password sharingwhich in 2023 must cover all countries incl is also introduced in Poland.
The new rules tighten the provisions already in the Netflix regulations, which a Netflix account can only be shared with members of one household. Sharing passwords and access to third parties (outside your household) for free is strictly prohibited. However, this does not mean that anyone who previously used someone else’s Netflix subscription in this way will now necessarily have to pay the full subscription on their own.
Netflix is currently introducing a new feature that subscribers will be able to add an additional user to your package. However, this is an extra paid service and we just learned what it costs. So it costs you to add an extra person PLN 9.99 for each month.
To complete the entire process and adapt your profile to the new accessibility rules, you must first enter your account and view the list of devices from which you are not logged in. Then we should remove equipment from people outside our household from the list and change the password for your account.
Then the one we want to join must register your own Netflix accountand you don’t need to pay a subscription. Then the active subscriber must send such a person an invitation to transfer the profile to your cat and after the invitation recipient agrees, accounts will be linked. Simple, but in practice unfortunately not everyone can add an extra user to their account.
It turns out that it is possible adding an additional profile to your Netflix account for PLN 9.99 it is not available to everyone. The website reported that this is possible will not be available as part of the lowest PLN 29 basic Netflix planand only for the other two, i.e. Standard and Premium, for PLN 43 and PLN 60 respectively.
But that’s not all. It was also added that the ability to share a Netflix account with an additional person will only be possible if when this person is also in Poland and we ourselves bought the giant’s service. If we have received a subscription billed by a third party, e.g. as part of a package with the TV service, we will not be able to add an extra person.

Due to the new rules, this will of course be necessary verify who exactly is using your Netflix account and whether it can do so under the new rules. Unfortunately, reports on this topic and the giant’s position have changed several times in recent months. Some of the notifications, such as verifying the device’s IP location by systematically logging into a given network, have already been withdrawn by Netflix due to several controversies.
According to current information Netflix user verification will be done with code. Specifically, if the service detects an attempt to log into an account outside of your home network, it will ask you to enter a code that will be sent to the email address of the Netflix account holder. Once you have entered it, access is unlocked. The point is that the code is active for 15 minutesso the account owner has enough time to check the email with the code and enter it.
However, in the case of unauthorized persons, the process will be problematic enough (sending a request to the account holder, his reaction and sending the code, then entering the code and all in 15 minutes) to stop similar attempts to circumvent the rules.

The issue of vacations and travel sparked controversy. Netflix initially announced that they didn’t want to make it difficult to use the website for users while travelling, it will be possible to log into an account in a place other than your household for a period of two weeks, as long as it is the first time you log in in a given place. The problem is therefore quite obvious if people systematically go to a certain place, for example to their holiday home. For this purpose Netflix has added another option – “Extra Home”.
Starting August 22, 2022, when you log into Netflix on your TV outside of the home, you’ll see the option to add a home for an additional monthly fee. If you only use this TV for a limited time, you can watch Netflix for up to 2 weeks at no extra cost, as long as your account has not been used in this location before. After this time, the TV will be locked unless you add an additional home.
An additional home is an option that Netflix subscribers can link another site to their account for a feespecifically its physical location. The costs for this are of course much less than the whole package, but in this way it will not be possible to systematically use the account elsewhere for free. Thus, it will no longer be profitable for the owners of the service to share the password with third parties, as they will have to pay extra for it. In addition, the number of these seats is very limited, which will prevent others from buying access “at cost” within one subscription. Depending on the package in question, holders can:
- basic package can connect 1 extra place (outside the “main house”),
- standard package can be combined with 2 extra seats,
- the premium package can bind up to 3 extra seats.
unfortunately It is not yet known how much the Extra Housing tax will cover and will it be similar to adding an extra person to your Netflix account.
