Oliwia Jabłońska in Wednesday’s final of the 400 meters swimming race in the S10 class for her third medal in the Paralympic Games. Canadian Aurelie Rivard won the gold, beating the world record by more than five seconds.
Oliwia Jabłońska to compete in the 400-meter freestyle, which is her crowning distance, she was a favorite. The 24-year-old started quite calmly – in the first 100 meters she was in fourth place. After another time trial, she moved into third place, staying close to Bianca Pap halfway through the distance. In the last 200 meters, however, the woman from Wrocław weakened and the Hungarian woman, who was fighting for silver, clearly got away from her. Polka tried to make up for the losses with a strong finish, but eventually ended the fight over five seconds behind Pap’s back. Canadian Aurelie Rivard was out of reach of the opposition and broke the world record by over five seconds with a time of 4:24.08!
– Even this season I swam faster. I felt a bit pressured, but I’m an ambitious player and I also put that on myself. I dreamed of a gold medal, but I hope that I will be able to fight for it in the future. I didn’t expect the Canadian to push the world record so much, so I have something to work on – said Jabłońska warmly, who seemed a bit disappointed by the brown disc.
After her performance in Tokyo, Jabłońska has already won three medals at the Paralympic Games. She scored the previous 100 meters with the butterfly style. She brought silver from London and bronze from Rio. The collection of the WZN Start Wrocław rider also includes the titles of world champions (Mexico 2017 and London 2019) and European (Eindhoven 2014, Dublin 2018).
