PTI asks ECP to award PPP ‘lot’ symbol to PML-N candidates for Punjab polls

The PTI wrote a letter to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to award a “lot” as a symbol to the ruling party’s candidates after announcing an election alliance for the upcoming elections at 20 vacancies in Punjab.

PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry, in a letter to the ECP, informed the body that Pakistan was going through a “multidimensional crisis due to a foreign conspiracy”.

The former information minister told the commission that the parties that formed the coalition government at the Center fought in the 2018 elections as rivals and were ideologically different.

“This alliance began with a motion of no confidence in the PTI government on March 8, 2022, when the worst horse trade in history took place at Sindh House,” Fawad said.

He added that his party then asked the ECP to pay attention to the issue.

The PTI leader further said that the “sale of conscience, horse trade and crossing the floor” that began in the National Assembly eventually reached Punjab, adding that 20 MPs appeared in the Punjab Assembly who opposed the law and the Constitution and surrendered your conscience to wealth.

“As a result, the ECP declared their seats vacant and scheduled by-elections in constituencies,” Fawad said, adding that the PPP, PML-N and other parties promoting horse trade announced the formation of an electoral alliance for by-elections through a conference on reporters June 22nd.

“Therefore, all these parties should be given a single electoral symbol, not a separate one. In such a situation, it is our opinion that they should be given a lottery as a symbol, ”Fawad said.

He added that PTI believes that the awarding of symbols would help the public determine who to vote for, and he also stated that this would have a positive effect on voter turnout.

The PPP will support the PML-N in supplementary polls by the Punjab Assembly

PTI wrote the letter after the PPP announced a day earlier that the party would support PML-Na candidates who will run in the upcoming by-elections in 20 vacancies in the Punjab assembly.

The seats became vacant after the ECP fired dissident PTI MPs for voting against party politics.

The vote will take place on July 17, according to the ECP schedule published on May 26.

In the meantime, the candidate papers for the by-elections can be submitted from June 4 to 7, after which the returning officials will check the candidate papers until June 11. However, appeals against decisions of returnee officers may be filed. filed by June 15th.

“Given the country’s interest, the PPP has decided to support the PML-N candidate for all 20 vacancies,” PPP Provincial Minister Hassan Murtaza said addressing a joint press conference attended by Attaullah Tarar of PML-N and Malik Ahmad Khan.

Both parties, however, will remain political rivals during the next general election, the PPP leader explained.

But PPP candidates will withdraw their candidacy papers for the upcoming by-elections.
