LAHORE: In a major turn of events, the PPP announced on Wednesday that it would support PML-N candidates in the upcoming by-elections in 20 vacant general seats in the Punjab assembly, which were vacated after the ECP removed PTI dissident MPs to vote against the party’s policies. .
According to the ECP’s timetable published on 26 May, voting will take place on 17 July, while by-elections for by-elections may be submitted from 4 to 7 June, after which returning officials will check their candidate papers by 11 May. June, and appeals against decisions of returnee officers can be filed until June 15.
Given the country’s interest, the PPP has decided to support the PML-N candidate for all 20 vacancies, PPP Provincial Minister Hassan Murtaza said addressing a joint press conference attended by Attaullah Tarar of PML-N and Malik Ahmad Khan.
Both parties, however, will remain political rivals during the next general election, the PPP leader explained.
But PPP candidates will withdraw their candidacy papers for the upcoming by-elections.
For his part, Malik Ahmad Khan of PML-Na has vowed to jointly defeat PTI during the upcoming by-elections in all 20 seats.
Provincial Minister Attaullah Tarar said there are coalition governments in Punjab and the center. He believes that consensus and unity will be maintained in the future.
He argued that they are united not only in terms of elections but also in governance. Answering a question, the PML-N minister warned that he would take strict measures against those who would take the law into their own hands.
