“The Tymbark Cup” – one of Adam Buksa’s first successes

– But why? We need a better one! – there was no shortage of such comments when Pogoń Szczecin offloaded the then 21-year-old Adam Buksa. The Porters had to defend against relegation, so they needed to strengthen the attack. Zagłębie Lubin was stronger in person and the big striker was somehow unconvincing. In autumn 2017, he played 8 league matches and scored 1 goal. He did better in the previous season (2016/17) – 22 appearances and 3 goals, and the performances of two seasons in Lechia Gdańsk could not knock anyone down either. The activists from Zagłębie quickly agreed to Pogoń’s proposal, they were satisfied that they earned about PLN 300,000 in total. dollars.

It’s just that Buks, under the wing of coach Kosta Runjaic, began to grow into the league’s leading striker. In the spring of 2018, he played 12 games, scored 4 goals. Chase in a big way remained in the elite. Another season (2018/19) – 22 games and 11 goals. Buksa could shoot with his head and with two legs. Some of these hits were of great beauty. No wonder the coaches of the Polish national team became interested in him, but health problems (spine problems) prevented him from joining the team. In autumn 2019 he played for Pogoń (18 matches and 7 goals) and the team had a chance for the Polish championship. It’s just that the player decided to fly to the United States. For about 4 million euros, he went to the New England Revolution. He played there for 2.5 years and it was so good that he finally started playing for the national team. And in the summer of 2022, he decided to return to Europe and join the French RC Lens. This team was and is a revelation of the local competition, because it fought as equals with the strong PSG for a long time, and will probably end the season on the podium. However, Buksa’s contribution to these successes is small. Immediately after the transfer, it turned out that he had an injury. He came back, played four games and was injured again. After six months out, he played one minute against Monaco last weekend.

They expect him to return to form not only at the club, but also on the Polish national team. He made his debut in it on September 2, 2021 and currently has 9 appearances and 5 goals. Impressive.

– Football has been my hobby since I was born. I played all day and if I could I would do it even longer. I never got tired of it – he said during one of the interviews when he was a player in Pogoń. – When I lost, I was in a bad mood. To this day, I don’t like losing.

He started his football career in Bronowianka Kraków and later played in Juvenia Kraków, Hutnik Kraków, Wisła Kraków and Garbarnia Kraków. As a junior, he also went to Novara in Italy for a year. And after returning he joined Lechia.

Few people remember that one of Adam Buksa’s first successes was the victory in 2006 in the Tymbark Cup tournament. Blondyn played for the Małopolska team and the national final took place in September at the Hutnik sports fields.
