DHAKA: Reacting to the derogatory remarks recently made by two senior leaders of India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) against the Holy Prophet (PBUH), Bangladesh Information Minister Hasan Mahmud said his government would not give in Namoos-e-Risalat (holiness of prophecy).

Condemning the blasphemous statements of the BJP leader, Hasan Mahmud said it was not an internal matter of India.

He further said that Dhaka, however, did not want to raise the issue.

Protests in Bangladesh

Protests erupted in Bangladesh against defamatory comments by members of India’s ruling party about the Prophet Muhammad (as) last week.

On June 9, Bangladesh’s largest non-political Islamic platform, Hefazat-e-Islamheld a large rally in Dhaka to record their protest against the blasphemous statements of the BJP leaders.

They demanded that their government send an official condemnation message to New Delhi in this regard.
